XPF Video: Windows Phone 7 User Group Presentation

At the last Windows Phone User Group, we took to the stage of Imperial College London and gave an introductory presentation on XPF. For those that weren’t able to make it, we’re pleased to be able to present it to you now in 720p via the magic of IIS Smooth Streaming (we’ll also be making a downloadable version available shortly).

Great presentation as it clarifies XPF in a really clear way. Congrats for that!

I do however have a question regarding input management.
I must admit that I am too lazy and busy right now to make my own test projects and thought you could come up with a quicker response.

You say during this presentation that you are aiming to support XPF on the XBOX360 and you have obviously controls that were designed from the start to react to pointing input devices (mouse or touching):
How are you planning to, or already, handle Statefull input devices such as gamepads? How can a XPF control placed in a layout (especially some sort of generic Canva) knows which controls comes before or after?

Thanks – glad you enjoyed it.

The quick answer is that we don’t have an answer for that right now, but focus management is pretty high on our list of things to tackle. It may well be that we defer the handling of such logic to the implementer via a service interface of some type.

Ideally, from a developer perspective, I'd love to find something similar to the usual Index property defining the logical input order a given control receives input if you move up and down keys for instance or tab key and to simplify things, that would work at the container element level so it's up to the implementer to make sure that the buttons, or any other controls he want the user to interact with are placed inside the same container.
