Birdsong – A new Twitter client for Windows Phone 7

ApplicationIcon1 Red Badger are pleased to announce the release of Birdsong for Windows Phone 7, a premium Twitter application. Birdsong provides a native, performant and functionally rich experience throughout. Its innovative design has features such as infinite scrolling and off-line viewing that are powered by a custom document database.

Version 1 has shipped with a hatful of cool functionality and there’s lots more to come (version 1.1 is in development already).

We’ll be posting a number of blogs and videos demonstrating Birdsong’s functionality over the next few days and weeks; but for now, here is an overview of some of the key features.

Configurable Timelines

Timelines on the home screen are configurable. You can add lists, saved searches and new searches as well as changing the order in which the timelines appear.

Integrated Picture Viewing

Tweets with pictures in your timeline are easy to spot using the tweet property icons. An integrated image viewer then allows you to view the pictures in thumbnail and full-screen mode.

Threaded Conversations

Conversations are flagged with a tweet property icon. Threaded conversations allow you to view an entire conversation in context.

Direct Message Threading

Birdsong’s direct messages are organised like an email inbox. All direct messages between you and your friends are automatically threaded.

Places

Geo-tagged tweets are marked with a tweet property icon in your timeline. Birdsong supports map previews and Bing Maps integration.

TwitPic Integration

Share existing or new photos using the fast TwitPic integration.

Integrated Web Browser

Using the integrated browser you can view web links without leaving Birdsong – there’s no need to launch Internet Explorer (although you can).

Status Bar

The status bar shows your configured timelines, which one you are currently viewing, your unread counts and each timeline’s update status.

Profiles

You can explore anyone’s profile, their timeline, friends, followers and favourites.

Integrated Theme

Birdsong will automatically inherit your theme settings, honouring your choice of background and accent colour.

Birdsong is available now in the Windows Phone Marketplace and has a (more or less) fully featured trial.

Push Notification is coming soon with live tiles and toast. Version 1.1 should be out next week with push to follow immediately after that.

Great app, I would just enjoy seeing Push Notifications & Live Tile for the obvious ones, and also the ability to mention within a tweet. At the moment there isn't a Twitter client (that I've tried) that allows you to mention people you're following on the fly. At the moment, from what I've seen, you either need to have their name memorized, or go to their profile to mention them. I'd love to see a 'TweetCaster' style implementation here, that after you type @ and a few letters the application automatically starts suggesting names your follow.

Also, the ability to run under the lock screen is a necessity, especially for those of us with a short screen time out, and no signal at work.

Other than that, thanks for the great product.

Great app! The best twitter app on wp7, and I've tried them all so far. One thing coming from the iphone and android twitter apps I miss is the ability to have your place on the timeline saved. For example, now, if I go a day without opening the app, when I do open it I might have 100+ new tweets to read, and the timeline is at the very top (latest tweet) and it's no fun reading those tweets in reverse order. An option to save your spot in the timeline would be great. Thanks!

The ability to start reading tweets where you left off is a must. Hate scrolling from the top to where I left off. Twitlonger integration would be nice also. And a easier way to mention a friend. Ie whe you type the @ your friends pop up and the you choose somebody. Keep up the good work.

I'm cheching out Birdsong at the moment and it seems to be be a very cool app. But what I would would really like is a smaller font or the ability to adjust the fontsize. For my personal taste the fontsize for tweets is way to big.
